Timberland Shoe Brand Review

One of my favourite brands of hard working footwear built tough but comfortable are made by Timberland. The Timberland company dates back to the 1950s when it was originally known as the Abington Shoe Company based in Abington, Massachusetts. It wasn’t until 1965 when the family-owned company started using injection-moulding technology.

I know, you may be thinking that this is some sort of marketing department buzz word to get you to think that these boots are something special. Well, they actually are and this is far from a gimmick. In fact, the Swartz Family introduced this revolutionary process that essentially fused together soles and leather uppers together. Prior to this stitching was the only way to join the two parts of a shoe together. The injection-moulding created a true waterproof piece of footwear.

It wasn’t until 1973 when the Swartz family started branding their shoes and boots with the Timberland name and created their first-ever guaranteed waterproof boot and officially changed the shoe company name to Timberland in 1978. The following year they introduced boat shoes and a women’s footwear line in 1990. The company became socially conscious later in that decade and introduced various programs that saw employees rewarded for community service and the launch of public awareness programs such as ‘Give Racism The Boot’.

The things I’ve always liked about Timberland products is that although they are meant for wearing in the pursuit of an active lifestyle, they rarely fit or feel like a boot or boat shoe. They are functional, attractive and comfortable and as far as I’m concerned that’s a three-pronged, triple threat to my wallet that I have no problem dealing with.

When you shop for active wear footwear from Timberland remember to correctly size your shoes by measuring both of your feet, preferably in centimetres, and do your own shoe size conversion on the nifty shoe size chart I have on this website. I also strongly recommend you buy your new shoes online at Amazon.com for the best pricing available!
